I'm losing my "Friends"

We are discussing getting rid of cable. We've mentioned it before and tried it back in February when we moved. I don't remember how long it lasted, maybe a couple of weeks, maybe a month... I just can't recall. Getting rid of cable will be like losing a friend. I know that sounds sad, I know that sounds pathetic, but it's unfortunately true.

I'm addicted to cable and I've been trying these last few days to make the most effort to keep the television off and find other things to fill my time (hence my increase in blogs the past 24 hours, hehe). Our cable will be leaving us, I believe, on the 11th - which is very, very soon. I'm trying to make it more gradual rather than all of a sudden cold turkey --- no more "Oprah" and no more "Friends" and no more "Fear Factor" and no more "Desperate Housewives" and no more "LOST". My list could go on and on and on... But, I'm willing to take the loss. I think it'll make me stronger.

I think it will be a great growing experience for me to make due with other forms of entertainment. I will get around to more scrapbooking, trying out some more quilting, reading, listening to music for entertainment, maybe even more blogging! I'll find lots to do to keep myself busy, I'll maybe start training for those triathalons I've been considering, get around to long ago mentioned projects I'd wanted to start, and even learn to cook actual food. The possibilities are endless.

I'll keep my blog updated with my progress. I'm sure I'll suffer withdraw... I'm sure I'll go through the grieving process... so I'll be looking for support... who wants to become my official tv show recorder? I've got a list started - I'll supply the videotape and pay $1 per 30 minute episode. Any takers? I'm getting desperate...

We haven't had cable in a long, long time. Well, our cable company offers a 13 dollar plan that covers the basic local channels (it's hilly around here, so not very good antenna reception) and a few others, like TBN and shopping networks, that sort of thing. We get along fine with that plus internet. You'll make it!!

Well, I guess that means we have cable, doesn't it ... but it's only to enhance what we can get with an antenna. Anyhoo. Hope you make it without your "friends" ...

It's amazing how much time you have to read and actually learn something instead of being force-fed skewed, inaccurate sound bites that have a veneer of media respectibility, but really serve only to keep us enslaved. TV exists to make us stupid.

That said, I REALLY miss "Friends."

I haven't had cable in my house for almost 4 years now. At first I was a little frantic, but now when I visit friends the first thing I do is turn on the TV! It really saves on that having to talk thing.
